‘Raincoat Man’ is a limited series of prints by Paris-based photographer Lea Colombo. Working in her established method, Colombo’s image was captured naturally during a return trip to her home country of South Africa. Each of the editions for ‘Raincoat Man’ were hand-printed in Colombo’s darkroom, utilizing a process of masking and coloured gels during enlargement on varied sizes of papers and resulting in prints distinctive from one another. Colombo’s images emphasize unposed or spontaneous compositions while using atmospheric effect and stylized (dis)coloration to create visceral, emotive portraits.
