Hand-carved from Jacaranda wood, Cameron Platter’s ‘Wastepaper Bin’ work exemplifies his dedication to the handmade aesthetic. While Platter’s work explores a range of topics dealing with globalisation, these sculptures were conceptualised from themes of excess, consumption, and detritus. Elevated from object to artwork, the ‘Wastepaper Bin’ and accompanying Monster energy drink, succinctly summarise Platter’s commentary on the current throwaway consumer culture. Although his work does protest the conspicuous production of waste, Platter’s work simultaneously celebrates it, referencing the vivid green and vertical striations of the Monster logo in the design.
